Jeep was idling rough and running on low rpms. It was also making an insane whistling sound. Took out the IAC and cleaned it up with some throttle body cleaner and also cleaned the throttle body itself. Idles wonderfully. Still insane whistling. Is this the IAC or something else?

Could be a vacuum leak, check your tensioner pulley and idler pulley too.

I'm getting a loud whistle from my I6, seems to be coming from the area of the throttle body. Definitely not the idler pulleys, they're both brand-new.
I found that if I pulled ever so gently on the throttle cable, the whistling immediately died away. Pretty sure it's a vacuum leak, so I'll be pulling the throttle body to clean it and the IAC and replace the gasket.

Hate to revive an old(ish) thread but I am having a very similar issue with my '91 Cherokee Laredo (4.0). I took the IAC out and cleaned it and it looks beautiful and I cleaned the TB pretty well. However, my Jeep still idle's rough. It hasn't wanted to idle correctly since I replaced my Fuel Injector O-Rings. It fires very well at high RPM and when I first start it in park. But once I get it going it goes downhill very quickly.
P.S. The plastic connector that mounts the cruise control cable to the rest of the TB stuff broke off so it's not currently connected. Could this be giving me the trouble? It seems unrelated but I am sort of out of ideas.

Wondering if you ever found a fix for your jeep? My 96 zj 5.2 has the same rough idle amd oil pressure is up into the 60-70 psi till warm up then will drop to around 40-50 psi when warm. Oil levels are spot on. Hoping you might have stumbled across something

I just cleaned my IAC, wasn't too dirty though. But before I cleaned it, I unplugged it while it was idleing and nothing changed at all? I had a Grand Am that did the same thing, even after I replaced it with a new IAC. Should it do something, idle up or down or die or something? I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have too.

IAC Valve maintenance
Followed your steps worked perfect, however, before tackling check to make sure you have the proper tool. My 5.2l bolts required a Star T-20 and you only have about 6-7 inches of total work area. The IAC Valve was located on the backside of the intake, closest to the firewall. Purchase the Star All-In One Driver (you will need it for just about every lissle screw on the vehicle), loosened screws on intake, than removed the singular T-20 screw Driver which just left 3 inches of tool. Worked like a charm. Once figured proper tool and steps took less than 10 minutes to repair.

This thread encouraged me to join after it fixed my problem! Well mostly...after 10 min of driving it idled low at stops again but didn't die. I didn't disconnect the battery tho so I'm def going to do that and try again. It was such an easy fix and seems like something ppl should do whether it is a problem or not. It did fix my jeep idling high when i start it tho! So glad I came across this thread!
On another note I saw somebody say they had over 300k on theirs and hope to get to 500k...I'm only at 266k so it looks like I'll be coming around this forum a lot more often!

Just replaced my IAC, and TPS, but now I have a high pitch sound when I let off the GO pedal. Any ideas? I have a lifetime warranty, I was thinking maybe the IAC has a leak. Any thoughts?
