What all fluids can you use to clean the IAC? Carb cleaner, brake cleaner etc? Thinking bout doing this to mine just for heck of it. Also, what do you not want to move on it? the part that your cleaning (the dirty part) or what? I got no knowledge about these things so anything is helpful.

Throttle Body or Carburetor cleaner is what you want to use. Check the first post.

Has anyone changed the IAC on an '06 Jeep Grand Cherokee (4.7L)? This one is a little different than the ones that are described in any article I can find... Is it the same procedure to clean?

Thanks I cleaned it but still having issues with stalling. And when I press the gas the oil pressure goes to 80 the back down when I release it.

Cleaned mine out this weekend after seafoaming the engine, doing a compression test, changed spark plugs/wires/rotor/cap and checked the engine vaccum. Even after the tune up before cleaning the TB and IAC the Jeep was running a bit rough, but after following the instructions from the first post it's purring like a kitten.

Big thank you for the write up! JeepForum.com rocks!

I'm trying to do some research for you on this one, bc I dont know how you'd clean this one compaired to mine.

I also have a question for someone to answer...even though I cleaned mine up and it took care of the problem of low idle and stall outs, I noticed that the electrical connector was unplugged from the IAC. It has a small diode plugged into it as if completing the circut. It was wrapped with electrical tape. Like I said in a previous post, the previous owner took many, many shortcuts and rigged all kinds of crazy things with my Jeep and in the 3 years that I've owned it, I've been coming along things and fixing them the correct way. Should I correct this problem as well and pull the diode out and plug the connector back into the IAC? Now I'm wondering if the IAC pintle/plunger motor even works and is the reason why the previous owner took the shortcut?

Nice write up on cleaning the IAC. I have a 2001 4.7 WJ w/ 177k. Yesterday I removed the throttle body, cleaned it, replaced the TPS, and cleaned the IAC like the write up shows. My idle has improved greatly. But my question is why does the IAC have all the carbon build up (I guess this is what it is) on it. Is that normal, or is that coming from another problem?

I have a question, would a bad TPS cause rpm surging when the engine is cold ? I noticed recently that my 5.9 when i start it and take off and drive slow outa the neighborhood that the rpm's surge 100 up and down until i get speed and everything is warmed up.
