hot air not comming out...interesting problem..

so i have a 99 Grand Cherokee limited, with the dual climate controls.

i turned my heat on the other day and while there was air comming out of all the vents, the vents on the driver side was blowing cold air. the passenger was blowing nice hot air. interesting huh? when i switched the control to defroster, the air blowing was cool as well. at first i thought (and was told) that it was the thermostat, but once i figured out that there was hot air comming out of some of the vents and not others i guess that kind of debunked that theory. Anyone ever have this problem? or know what it could be?

This is a common problem with WJs, and can be difficult to search for since it comes up so much. Take a look here:

A link to the above write-up has also been added to the FAQ.

OK...SO HERES AN UPDATE.

My father helped me and we pulled out the glove box and then pulled the actuator motor (i think thats what its called) out. he then manually turned the damper by hand and hot air started to come out of the driver side vents. So we figured all was well, i could get through the winter like this. well, i shut the car off and turned it back on and cold air come out the driver vents again while hot air was comming out the passenger side
