Homemade disconnects for a WJ?

I've been looking around and found out that some ZJ and TJ owners make their own front disconnects with a couple cotter pins, clevis pins, and some washers. Is this possible with my WJ or is it even recommended if it can be done? I know that they wear out with normal use and need to be replaced from time to time, but for $5 you can't go wrong.

Take a look at the composition of the existing end links...I bet it's about the same as the ZJ and TJ. End links didn't change all THAT much over the years.
