I believe that your's would be that same as my 98.

Check to make sure that your rear seat drink holder (on the back side of that center console cover) is all the way pushed in. If it is, open the center console cover a little and then pull the drink holder out and push it back in.

There is a catch inside that cover that will not allow you to open it (disables the latch) if the drink holder it out. It is to prevent you from spilling your passenger's beer. Sometimes it gets jammed and just needs to be worked a few times.

By all means hit up the JY for a hitch if you want one and look out for front tow/recovery hooks while you are at it .

Thanks guys Do the front tow hooks just bolt on then? I'll keep my eyes open for a set of those as well

For the trailer hitch, I figured for $12 I could sand it and paint/rustoleum the hitch if I had to?

I think my latch is actually broken, it doesn't seem to keep the console cover closed, and the lever/latch rattles around and the plastic handle/lever slides around. I was figuring I could pick up a new mechanism at the junk yard?

It seems that I don't have tow hooks, although I might be looking in the wrong spot for them. I have a third skid plate underneath the radiator. I also have blue rear shocks. Maybe it's an Up Country? I found the Contact Jeep link and requested a build sheet.

I also stopped at the Jeep dealer and ordered the Liftgate Ajar sensor, came to $27 and it'll be here Thursday.

Now a few quick pics:

the two front hooks would be sticking out of the front bumper and you couldn't really miss them .

in the back, I think you just use the hitch as a tow point but I am not sure .

You seem to have a fair bunch of space above your tires and I do wonder if it is an upcountry or something and the build sheet should answer that question .

Can you ask the PO ?

I would think that it came with the skid plates for a reason and I was kind of wondering why there was not a 3RD one but you answered that question .

Thanks, I thought I was overlooking them

I thought so too, it seems to sit a little higher than the other ones I test drove. I quite like it. I'll try asking the PO, and see what the build sheet says.

I wasn't aware there should be three, but I noticed the third while looking for those tow hooks!

BTW can anyone identify those Jeep rims? The other ones I test drove didn't have rims like that, and the PO mentioned to me that the rims were only a year or two old.

I also currently have a dead battery, I suspect it's been drained by that liftgate ajar sensor. The Jeep was also sitting for 4-5 weeks while it was for sale, and I suspect the battery might have gone bad. I also haven't driven it a lot so I'm not sure if the battery got fully charged up. I knew about a possible bad battery before I bought it, so I'm going to bring it in for testing tomorrow and possibly pick up a new one, and the new lift gate sensor should be in Thursday

Looks good man I like it! Idk much about how these Jeeps came from the factory, but I thought that if it came with skids it would have tow hooks too! Maybe someone removed the hooks? Or maybe they added the skids. Who knows... I'll be curious as to what your factory build says!

You might be able to get a free hitch from Chrysler due to the recall. As for the center console latch, are the rear cup holders closed all the way? If not they will keep the console from opening. For the upcountry suspension, if it has it, there should be a round sticker on the rear driver side glass stating so. What size tires do you have? My upcountry suspension Grand sits much higher over the stock tires than that but your tires look like they maybe oversized.

the console opens just fine, it's just the front lever to open it is busted and rattling around. I'm hoping to pick that up a the junk yard on Saturday.

The tires are 235/75/R15. Those might be the original shocks though? Maybe it's just sitting low? Just a guess.

I ended up getting a new battery

The liftgate ajar sensor also came in at the dealer, and I got that installed today and no more liftgate ajar message

I also had some stalling the last two days with a code 54 camshaft sensor. The dealer didn't have any, and they said it'd be 5-6 days to get one from another dealership. I opted for a NAPA brand distributor ignition pickup coil (the camshaft sensor) and installed that as well. Took it for a short drive, and it probably would have stalled on me twice previously but now it seems to be running fine.

My rear glass does not open. When I had the liftgate apart I noticed that someone had been in there already, and one of the liftgate ajar sensors was unplugged. The black box with the circuit board inside that works the back glass also wasn't put all the way back together. While I was checking the passenger side kick panel fuses (for the wiper motor/back glass) I noticed a red wire with an inline maxi-fuse that was cut and just sitting there. Anyone know what that is???

Anyways, the rear wiper works now, so that fuse is good, but the wiper does not touch the glass. Any ideas on that one?

if you mean it is bent outward, I have bent a quite few front ones over the years to make good contact again .

If so, just look at it and bow it back so it contact better again .

Easy peasy .
