Hi! Good luck with your purchase. Just make sure you've gone through the pre-purchase checklist for ZJ's.

One of the transfer case options (249) is known to seize by 150.000, you'd know it's seized if you have a wheel hop or binding when doing tight circles in 4HI on a dry pavement.

You can tell it's got a 249 if the shifter only has 4HI and 4LO.

Also there are typical oil leaks from oil filter adapter housing. They end up on bellhousing and look exactly like rear seal leak, but it's more often the filter housing.

Check for these things and point them out to knock the price down. These are relatively easy to fix anyway.

There may be some more things to look for, maybe try searcing around the forum.

Exhaust manifolds on 4.0L engines are known to crack. If you hear "tsk-tsk-tsk" when accelerating it could be the manifold.

Thanks for the info! My mechanic checked it out and said it was in great condition just needs a tune up and brakes....im looking forward to working on the jeep cause i have a 97 bmw 328is that is a pita to work on and with the I6 everything is right there. I will have to check the 4wd hop and everything else but i assume my mechanic checked it out...will recheck, thanks again

"Cause I have a 97 BMW 328is that is a pita to work on"

I know what you mean there!!!

Hehe, wait until you'd have to replace the crankshaft sensor! Jeep designers done that on purpose to test the owners commitment to the car.

Haha is the cps a pita? Ive replaced the water pump, thermostat, oil sending unit, oil pump, oil pan gasket, and oil pan in my jeep all in about 7 hours. My bmw....hahaha replacing the oil pan gasket requires dropping the subframe, bleeding the cooling system is the most tedious thing ive ever done...il stick with the jeep for now lol
