Help - What is this hose? Just found it today dangling there!

Hey guys. As I was walking out to my Jeep today, I noticed this hose dangling from under the front. Got underneath it to have a look and all I could see was that one end of it seemed to be attached to the front diff? I don't know where the other end that is dangling is supposed to go?

I'm guessing this is some kind of front diff cooler line? Er, that doesn't sound right. Maybe a front diff drain line? Gosh I don't know...

I don't know if the pictures will do it any justice, but see if you can help me out!

Its a breather hose. The top should be mounted high enough so that water cannot enter (like during deep water crossings). I don't recall how it is mounted from the factory. Mine is zip tied up by the airbox.

It's the vent tube/breather for the differential. Differentials have a vent to allow the oil in the diff to safely expand and overflow if needed, the tube is an extension to allow for diff friendly water crossing and is normally positioned safely up in the engine compartment (in the case of the front diff). If positioned incorrectly it may allow water into the diff and quickly destroy it. Reposition it safely in the engine compartment with a zip-tie.

I just duct taped mine back where it should be... I have seen a few ZJ's around town sporting the "tail dragging" affect. It is alarming to see something hanging down from the engine compartment though.

Thanks guys, I guess it came undone when I recently put my K&N intake on. I'll find some place to zip tie it to I guess.
