Help **very Important***
my friend gave me 5 gallons of old gas and i put it in my ZJ (1994) now it doesnt wanna start. i cant syphen out the gas and im by myself. i need help on how to get the gas out without dropping the tank (mind you i have a full tank, i filled it up with super hopeing that it would help). i disconnected the fuel filter and im turning the ignition to get the gas out but at this point it will take all night. some PLEASE give me a hand on how to do this. my friend mentioned something about getting power to the fuel pump fuse to have the pump on constantly but i dont know how or what to do with that. i am at a garage so i have access to tools and a lift. thank you!

there should be a fuel pump test lead on the passengers finder well under the hood buy the batt. it will be a single wire with a black female spade end on it. if you put 12 volts to it the pump will run all the time.

How old was the gas? I think that five gallons in a full tank would not stop it from starting.
If you have some starting fluid there, try it and see if the Jeep fires. What engine?

did you have no gas to begin with? just wondering if you ran it dry and then put stale gas in. dont see why that would make your car not start tho and not drive like crap. sure it wasnt a water/gas prank?
Click your key to the on position for 5 sec then off, then on 5sec, then off, ect. see if you can hear the pump turn on. It primes the lines for a few secs each key turn. give her some gas and turn it over. If your mixing good fuel and bad fuel jump around on the rear bumper to get the stuff moving around in there and maybe even purge the fuel lines to get any straight bad gas out.

1. Drill a hole in the tank. The bigger the hole, the faster it will drain.
2. Go to the auto parts place and get a fuel transfer pump. You can have your rocket scientist friend crank on it a while. Whatever you do, do not try to hot wire the fuel pump and pump your fuel out that way. ![]() Hah, for reasons I shall not divulge, I am not thinking clearly tonight. The guys are right. 5 gallons of old gas will not keep the engine from starting. Do you have fuel at the rail, or is it full of air?

Unless you tank was bone dry and the gas was a good many years old, the not starting problem you are having is likely not being caused by old gas. However ,it your were empty and the gas was really old, you do not have to drain it. Just fill the tank up. The old stuff will dilute enough to run the engine. Performance won't be great until the next tank.

After all that, I'll bet your plugs are now fouled.

the problem is not the gas unless it was straight water. sorry to be a bearer of bad news but it looks like someone else is gonna have to diagnos this problem. engine cranks, fuel is there, pump is on, gas is good, starter fluid does not fire up but only catches on fire? I only flare up starter fluid on carb motors but
i use it often on TBI and Fuel injection too, weird. Whats left the cps?

In that case, you have fuel. And since it caught fire four times
, I'd venture to guess you have spark. The question is, do you have spark when the valves are closed and the piston is in the proper position? If it caught fire, that means spark is traveling back up from the cylinder to the throttle body. Which means your valves are not closed when the spark plug fires. Your story implies the vehicle was working fine when you added gas and it suddenly decided to quit running. Are you sure you haven't been "mechanicin'" on it? ![]()

and it sounds like youve added so many unnecessary additives to the fuel it may never fire
you probably have more additives than gas. throw some mystery oil in there too . pull the plugs if you have a 4.0 crank the motor a few times, check the plugs, put them in and try and fire it up with no more additives. if it still doesnt work then try starter fluid

Bright side? It's a jeep. The gas will be gone in just a few minutes.
