Help: Two Questions -> one pic...

Hey guys, need your help quick please:

1. How am I supposed to get the bolt back in here? Hmmm?

2. The ball joint instructions say tighten to 75 ft lbs, the Chiltons says 100ft lbs.
Which one should I trust?

Thanks in advance guys!

Harry

You're going to need to use a jack to shift the axle in place to where you want it...I usually use a jack on the coil spring perch to twist the side I'm working on.

I would go by chiltons, but you can compromise and go in between, say 90ft lbs

Little jackin, little leverage, it'll go. As for the ball joints. the chilton's will refer to factory replacement parts. After market may have thier own specs

You have the weight of the vehicle on the axle still? If so jack it up and let the axle droop and then jack up the axle to manipulate it. I have always done it this method. Never liked replacing one control arm at a time method.

May be off topic, but i;m wondering; where did you get those red axle side bushings? I can't find any axle side bushings for the uppers...i assume they're a PITA to replace but mine need it badly

I'm just looking for some cheap OEM replacements for now. I found some on ebay for $20 but they don't include the steel sleeves that they fit in.. Can you replace the steel sleeves, if you can i need too. I'm having a heck of a time finding the bushings anywhere else though...Everywhere i look it just says upper bushings and not axle or frame side.

also how hard are they to replace being on the axle...i hope they're not like regular bushings where you need a press and stuff.

use a ratchet strap. wrap one end around the axle and the other end to something else. the angle and position of the stationary objects you use is important.

Dudes, the Red bushings came from energy suspension.
http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=2%2E3103&cat=3111

also, they do not come with a sleeve, which caused this project to be a major PITA. the uppers on the axle needed to be burned out, (well all of them needed to be) which causes an issue because I still had the axle connected.

So, I used a bunch of tin foil as a heat shield while I created the heat/flame which is equivalent to atmosphere re-entry.

Arlo, do you also suggest that I disconnect the lower control arm? maybe this will help me? as I have been playing as you described above to no avail. Thanks man

Harry

PS: the red springs are rancho lifting springs.

Piece of cake if the jeep is on the ground just roll it forward or backwards. Got to push hard. Takes 2 people. It will rotate the mount. you may need to use a lever on the tire. Honest it works.

I was just at advance auto yesterday looking at that catalog...I want to change the bushing on my sway bars and end links...but mine are from Addco and not stock and in the book it had weird sizes and I already forgot what the size is on the bars. I saw some greasable sway bar bushings and thought those would be great...and my end links are al;ready bent and they came from addco...figures I would get a great bar and cheapo links.
