Help with engine/tranny noise!

This noise started about 2 weeks ago. When looking for possible causes, I noticed for the first time I had a blown plenum. Just got my plenum fix kit from Hughes, hopefully install that soon. Its a very loud click/knock sound. It seems to be worse in 1st and 2nd gear. I just drove it slowly around the block and I was afraid to step on the gas at all because it would get even louder.

I just changed the transmission fluid and adjusted the rear band (hopefully correctly). No change to the sound. Maybe front band tomorrow.

I can't localize the sound at all. It sounds like it could be from the top of the engine, but I'm not sure, it's loud all over! And it seems to be getting worse.

I'm hoping someone here had this sound before and it's an easy fix! Thanks!

Here is a video of the sound, starting in neutral and changing to drive:

Sounds like exhaust valves are stuck or lifters sticking, id try changing the oil maybe use some seafoam let it run 5 minutes to warm up then drain.

Just my 2 cents

Sounds like piston slap or rod knock to me. But it's hard to tell from a video. You can try doing this and listen for any significant change in sound. Don't shock yourself lol

Thanks for getting back to me, too! I just went and bought some spark plug pullers and I'll give that a try probably tomorrow. If it's piston slap or rod knock is that something where I'm going to have to pull the engine out?

Yes. Rebuild time or new motor whatever you choose.

Well, I tried pulling the plugs wires and I got a change (got louder and started sounding like 2 knocks) when I unplugged the 3rd back on the drivers side. Any idea what that means?

Ok, I don't think it's piston slap, since it only has 60k miles (at least that's what the odometer says). Plus from what I've read, wouldn't the noise get quieter when I removed the plug cable on the bad cylinder? Plus shouldn't piston slap get quieter with a load on the engine? Mine gets LOUDER! Like people staring loud!

Just trying to cover all the bases before I get a new engine.

Thanks!

Not to be stupid, but have you tried removing the serpentine belt, just to rule out any accessories?
