Help with driveshaft removal
Hi, I’m new to the jeep community. I’m trying to remove my transfer case, but I got into a snag. I know very little about jeeps. I can’t seem to remove the rear drive shaft. I have a 1997 grand Cherokee with a quadra-trac “on demand” 4wd system along with a Dana 44 rear end. I took off the joint bolts and straps, but the drive shaft won’t fall off. I am also unable to turn the drive shaft. I put the transmission and drive shaft in neutral and raise the rear end off the ground and still unable to turn it. Do I have to lift the front wheels off the ground as well for the drive shaft to turn? How do I go about removing the drive shaft? Also any hints or tips in removing the transfer case would be appreciated.

well ya if you have the full time case .think about it they are full time meaning both axles are always under power.that means the shafts both have to turn.if your T-case has a nuetral postion that might get the one to spin opposite of the other.if you have undone the bolts and straps you might have to give the drive shaft a smack with a hammer down by the axle yoke

That’s right smacking it with a rubber mallet or heavy hammer, will do it. It will swing in two directions. It should be obvious from the way you removed the clamps.
