Help with deciding exhaust system for my ZJ

Hey guys,

This is my first post

Anyway, i want to get a new exhaust for my 97 ZJ. When i got it it had that classic ZJ cat rattle, and 30,000 miles later has just got louder. I would love to get a new cat and exhaust for a reasonable price thats gonna sound great, and give me better gas mileage.. i'm a street driver for the most part (no off road mods) and drive a lot and am getting murdered at the gas station as my average gas mileage on the headliner display is 14.7 mpg

my driving style is for the most part conservative...... except im a 19 yr old male college student. My driving is 3/4 on backroad like roads, and 1/4 on the highway.

any suggestions before i pm kolak? or is that the best option?

I'd say jus go ahead and messag him; he'll get ya hooked up. And as far as the rattle, crawl under your jeep and see if the metal on top of The ca is loose, that's wha makes ninnies rattle, I plan to get some exhaust tape to strap it down. Oh and 14 is Still better then me

I only go through Advance for many parts on our Jeeps because of all the savings in using the discount codes. Below is an example in replacing the exhaust system on my son's 96 4.0 XJ where we saved big bucks. You need a credit card and open an account to use these codes.

I also replaced the exhaust on my 96 4.0 ZJ and used the codes for the stainless steel cat. Saved $50 on the cat in using the "VISA" code. Didn't know about these codes when buying the muffler and tail pipe earlier.

We went for the OE sound but with these replacement parts it's just a little more throaty. Walker brand aren't the highest quality parts but they work for us.

PS. when going with sensors and gaskets I always go with Mopar.

14 is horrible gas mileage. I get 17+ city, 21-23hwy and I know it can be better. Have you cleaned your plugs, cap, and rotor? Or just bought new ones? A fuel filter is pretty cheep and easy to replace. I haven't done my exhaust yet, but good luck!

i replaced the plugs 4000 miles ago, i'm not too sure what cap stands for (when i hear cap i think capacitor, i'm a mobile audio guy ), and i just put new rotors in the front and back.

distributor cap. Get the rotor button for it too and try and get brass terminals. They are much better than the aluminum.

If at first you don't succeed, use more speed.

Yes the distributor cap sorry. And if you can't afford a new one just take a small file and clean up the terminals. Same with the plugs and rotor. Any thing will help a little. Performance distributor has a kit with wires, cap, rotor, and coil. It was a bit pricy but its made a difference in the gas mileage.
