Help! CEL, car limping, P0753 code

Hey all,

So last night I made a stop at a 7-11. As soon as I got back into my car and started it, the CEL immediately came on. Then, upon putting it in D, it literally felt like I was taking off in 3rd gear. I think my car is in sudden limp mode.

I came home and plugged in my scanner and it detected P0753 - Shift Solenoid A.

I couldn't find too much about this online other than it possibly being a simple relay replacement or something much bigger.

Does anyone know what the issue most likely is? Is my transmission toast?

Thanks

Ok so I swapped out the trans relay with the horn relay and disconnected the battery for 5+ minutes. Plugged it back up and the CEL is now gone and the car seems to drive fine again and engage all the gears as it should.

Does this mean it was the relay or does it normally take cars time to re-recognize the issue and throw the code and go into limp mode again?

My horn still works with the trans relay....

It takes anywhere from 10 to 15 miles to pop up if it's still an issue.

Does the fact that the horn is still working with the trans relay mean for sure it is not the relay? or it could still be?

It could be an intermittent problem with that relay in which case your tranny will continue to work normally and as little as most use the horn may never notice it.
