Hello From New Guy and Help Needed w/ TPS.

Good evening fellow Jeep lovers. New guy here, so please be patient with me.

Backstory-Long time Jeep lover here. I'm the proud owner of a 94' ZJ Laredo 5.2. I've had it since new and it has given me many years of fun and 306K nearly trouble free miles. It is a fairly mild set up with 1" BB lift, Skyjacker shocks/stabilizer, Black Rock 15x8" alloys and 30"x9.50" BFG KO2s. Engine mods include Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust, K&N Cold Air Intake, Firepower ignition kit, and Jet Performance Module. Have had almost zero issues with it throughout it's life time.

My issue- This weekend it started stalling and sputtering after a trip to the car wash. Got a CEL and it appears to be the Throttle Position Sensor. Purchased a new one this morning and installed it after work. Still no dice. Idle has smoothed out somewhat, but it still will not reliably downshift when throttle is applied.

Could I have gotten a bad part or is their something that I'm missing in the install process. it seems pretty straightforward.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Non mopar sensors have been known to cause issues with the ZJ, if you didn't get a TPS from the dealer that isn't a bad bet.

But

That jet chip is where my money is. It's not actually doing you any good on a ZJ, the computer just learns around it, but it could be causing your issue. I highly suggest you remove it and report back.

Unfortunately the Mopar TPS is no longer available for 93-95 ZJ.

Yep, I used a Wells brand from Rockauto. Its been working. I am going to split the old Mopar TPS someday and see if I can repair it. Doubtful tho.
