Headlights Freaking Out

Every once in a while when I have my headlights set to automatic on my '98 Grand, they will just start flashing on and off very rapidly. It started out very rarely, now it does it quit often. Is this the switch itrself or is there a sensor somewhere on it?

The headlight sensor is on the dash (for the ZJ) in front of the driver. It also includes a blinky red light for the security system. So the sensor may be going bad, or maybe clear off the accumulated wrappers and coffee cups.

Just had this problem with my ZJ. Except my dashlights would flash, but the headlights started to as well. Brought to the stealership, and the Headlight switch was bad. Just a forewarning that the part is about $180. And my advice is install it yourself, easy to do if you can pop the dash off, don't pay them $120 to install it.

I thought maybe your Jeeps used to be used by the police force so they had flashers installed.

It's probably the switch. If it works fine with the exception of the auto position, I would just not use the auto position. The cost of the switch is such that it is not worth it.

Your problem may not be the switch but the photo-sensor. Find were it located on your Jeep (on the dash by the defroster vents) and see if its been un-mounted, or fell into the vents to far down.
