Headlight Re-new Tip!

I have a 1997 grand with the v8. It had 120k miles when i bought it. The miles were all mostly highway, and my headlights were very yellow in color (faded bad!). I called the dealership.... 180 a piece for new ones. Screw that, i went home and took some medium grit buffing compound and i buffed the headlights with a buffer, they look brand new now! Clear as can be!

Nice tip. My old car had the same problems. I used to use a product called blue magic. you can find it at most auto parts stores.
But if you have a lot of blemishes, it would be better to buff it out. Then make sure to wax them, if not your problem might show back up before you know it.

Good to know. I have th esame prob. Know those lenses ain't cheap. Had a Volvo 240 once and they ran $80 a piece. Had to replace one for state safety inspection and a week later my little bro got in a low-speed and cracked the same lamp. Wasn't happy.

I'll take the 3M to it tomorrow sometime. You hand buff or electric?

I know some headlights have a special coating to resist yellowing. Do the Jeeps?

I used a power buffer to do the job. I think it does a much better job, than just by hand.

I picked up a set of headlights on ebay for $40+20 for shipping. The housing itself was actually a pretty good quality, but the clips that hold it in were garbage, so I went down to the dealer and picked some up, another $10. So all said and done it cost about $70 and they are just like new.

I asked that because sometimes if you sand the lenses it could make them worse over time.
