header panel

Hey everyone I was hoping someone could help me out with a few questions I have about my front end. First, the piece broken in the picture at the bottom is a header panel and not this http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php $169 grille support correct? Second, does anyone know how to replace the header panel or know of any writeups that could help me out? I ask because while I had it apart I could not seem to find any fastners or screws holding the header panel on...It's a 98 grand cherokee 5.9 by the way...Thanks

i replaced mine with one from rockauto. i dont recall having any issues with replacing it other then having to swap the head light mounting hardware over.

if i remember right once you have all the lights off if should be easy to see the screws and bolts that hold it in place. i think there are some bolts underneath the hood moulding (the flexible rubber thingy that creates a seal when its closed) right in front of the radiator.

dont remember all the specifics, but hope that helps. good luck!

I've been looking at header panels as well. With a bit ot time spent on google I've found several that have the headlight mounting hardware included. They are more expensive, but I've read here on the forum that it can be a PITA to reuse the old mounting hardware. I've only purchased a few things from Rockauto, but every time I got what I ordered in good condition and as advertised.

You are about to order the wrong one.

93-95 and 96-98 are different.

Make sure you get one for a 96-98.

My experience with these is that they are all junk and never fit right. Plus, you can almost guarantee that your headlights will not adjust correctly.

Spend the extra money and get one from a dealer, or if you are luck one from a junk yard that isn't cracked. They almost all are.......

Good luck.

I piggybacked an already existing post to avoid starting a new one on the same topic, my jeep us a 94; I just curious to what the difference is for 60 dollars more/less.

I'll check with the dealer and see how much they're running for from them too I guess.

One comes with headlight adjusting hardware and one doesn't.

They are junk. Trust me. Been there, done that.......

See if you can find an OEM one from a junk yard.
