Haynes or Chiltons poll

What do you guys prefer? Haynes or Chiltons manuals?

I prefer Chiltons but I think they both suck.

I prefer the Haynes. I feel the Haynes manual is more complete and clearly written. However, I have also found over the years that they sometimes complement each other. One covering some areas better than the other and vice versa. For this reason, I prefer to have a copy of each. I don't believe it is possible to have too much information at hand when working on my vehicle.

Haynes over Chiltons, but they do compliment each other in spots pretty well. Obviously the FSM's the best option, but take what ya get.

If you have a WJ the Haynes manual sucks IMO

In my opinion, I prefer the Haynes manuals. It seems to me that Chiltons tries to cover too much with each issue. I.E. my Haynes manual said on the cover--"1993-1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee" (Bought for my 94 ZJ), my Chiltons manual said "Covers Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Comanche, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer(93 Only) from 1984-1998" (Bought for my 96 ZJ) That is a little too much for one book if you ask me.

Factory Service Manual is the ONLY way to go.

But if I had to choose, I'd probably go Chiltons - no real reason, b/c they both fall short

I get both but like the chiltons better. The chiltons for my old mustang was more helpful than the haynes.

Of the two I prefer the Haynes, but i have the Chiltons and FSM. Nothing beats the FSM and a parts list

FSM is best. Haynes is good for pics and simple explainations, but FSM gives detailed/ technical info not even mentioned in Haynes/Chilton manuals

It's painfully obvious to the most casual observer that the FSM is going to be more comprehensive than Haynes or Chilton. It's also going to be about five times thicker and cost ten times more. Which probably explains why it was not a choice in the original question.

Good try though.
