grinds and crunches and clicks going into 4x4 ? What the heck

1995 Grand cherokee , worked find when i bought it , one day i went to switch into 4x4 and it made a nasty grinding sound when i went from park to drive ... doesnt do it in 2wd

i seen a vacuum line laying down underneath the motor... is this for the 4x4?

you probably have a linkage issue.
