Rubicon Express 2" BB to get 30" goodyear tires on. then came flowmaster exhaust and cold air intake. HELLA 500's on the bumer to cut the dark and a skyjacker stearing stabilizer to reduce the vibrations. definitly a suspension lift in the future.

sorry. didn't read the whole post before posting. the BB took about 4 hours because the axels had to be dropped. the exhaust was done by a shop and the intake took about 20 min. The stearing stablizer took about an hour because the old one was not comming off so easily. the BB was $50 and the intake was $50. It's a cone filter running off the sock hose. the Flowmaster was $120 installed and the skyjacker stearing stabilizer was $35 from partskart.com.. great prices from them. i love everything that i've done to it.

Most common mods:
Tires: 30 x 9.50 15s will fit and not rub on a ZJ. Most upgrade from the 225s or 235s (stockers). Price is relative here. Shocks: If you are running the stock shocks after 75K, you are kidding yourself. They need replacing. Price is relative hear also. Skids: Aftermarket skids are usually of two types. One, a skid type plate that allows you to know when you hit something and remind you that you should back up. The other type is a belly up type. IT allows you to carry the full weight of the vehicle without damage. Original skids are hard to find unless you go to a U-pull it lot or a junk yard. They are vey inexpensive that way. Skids take about ten to fifteen minutes to install. Rocker protection: ORGS or Kevins kevinsjeepparts.com has excellent gear. The price is around 400 but you won't get hurt. Install is around 30 to 45 minutes. Gears. I have upgraded from 3.73s to 4.11s. I had this professionally done so not to screw it up. Cost about 1K for the entire thing. Turbo City Intake: Cost around 200 and it took about thirty minutes to install. Mopar performance ECU: Cost about 250 and the install is very simple. Disconnect battery. Locate stock ecu, unbolt the three screws attaching it to the firewall, change out for new ECU. Reattach and you're on the way. Total time, 20 minutes. ARB bumper: Use the instructions included with the kit. Took about two hours including the holes drilled and the use of a friend to hold the bumper in place while you tighten the bolts. Cost about 650. Hunter

first mod
I can not compete with the 36 from the previous post but someone has to follow it. I was very bored on a rainy day and the kids were driving me crazy. I read about taking the amber out of your headlights. The WJ light assembly was put in the oven and baked at 400 for 5 minutes and they came apart. I pulled the amber parts out and put them back in the oven to reglue them. I then sealed them again the next morning to cover any gaps. I replaced the bulbs with amber ones and was done. Less than 5 bucks, not bad. The first one took about 20 minutes but the second was a little different and required some more time and patience.

Replacing the rotors with aftermarket is the most common mod for WJ.
Rear sway bar upgrade to ADDCO would be no 2. K&N air filter no 3. After market shocks and springs no 4. |

I forgot, I also got a used air compressor out of an old Cadilac with air suspension at a pick-n-pull type yard. I dropped it under the hood for airing back up after a trail. cost me under $30 and 1 hour. Not as fast as an ARB or Oasis, but gets the job done.
I just got my ARB Bull Bar and Warn 9000 from High Country Performance here in Denver for $1000, I don't know install time yet, but I can't wait to put it on. Last edited by mtjeeper; 12-27-2003 at 09:20 PM.. |

bored out throttle body - have it done at a local machine shop - can have it done for $50 or less. call/e-mail accurate power and get there 62mm butterfly ($25) and ask the for the correct tb diameter for that 'fly.
intake - DIY from a write up on JU. FREE!!! get your exhaust done - air in easy + air out easy = HP! then go after the skids/lifts/tires....

I didnt do that much to my truck yet but the one thing i did that i must say was amazing was....
I bought a pair of polk tweeters since i didn want to buy a component set because i just bought 6 1/2's all around...i bypassed the speakers in the front dash and cut off the harness and wired a pair of polks through the panel along the windshield to right next to the visor... i found a beam that was drillable..so i drilled a hold for the mount and mounted the tweeters with the bass blockers that came with the kit(U NEED THESE BLOCKERS) It just makes my system sound 5 times louder and wasnt very hard to install if u take your time..maybe 1 1/2.... Email me for questions... or check it out here http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/274798 Also another mod which was insane was going to home depot and buying gutter guard which is exaclty like the mesh grill inserts you can buy....i cut out pieces that bent in and we cut the side plastic holdings in the grill to slide it through and ply it around...i will have pics soon..but it was a 7 dollar item and took around an hour to get the bends right.. |
