Registered User Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: McDonald, PA (near Pgh) Posts: 48 | Don't take this the wrong way, but my closer relatives have bought a good number of cars and most of the time the remotes are buried in the glove box. They didn't know about them until I decided to read the owners manual and came across them lol. Just a place to look before going further. You can definitely get replacements from the dealer or sometimes you can get lucky at an auction site. Best of luck. edit: Ebay - Average $50 for a 93-95 zj keyless remote, $90/pair for aftermarket remotes compatible w/ the factory parts (thats what they claim anyway....) |

I put an after market alarm in my wife's 98 XJ. She likes the remote start option. Range is about 100+ feet. I had previous purchased a factory remote off of eBay and was never happy with it.... __________________ 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited Gibson Cat-Back 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L/AW4, Yakima Roof Rack 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Fresh 4.0L / 42RE / NP249 / 30-9.5x15's / Rough Country Shocks & Steering Stabilizer 2006 Jeep Liberty 'Renegade' Stock | |

The remote is expensive from the dealer, look for one on eBay or get an aftermarket one that also has remote start. I have the factory one and even though you have to aim directly at the reciever and you have to be close, it is still nice to be able to open just the back doors and nothing else. __________________ Ben 1993 Jeep Grand Wagoneer ZJ V8: Rear Aussie, 3.5" Lift, 31" M/Ts GA Trail Riders |

The IR remotes work fine, unless you need to unlock your car from 100ft away which to me is kind of pointless or want remote start. I used to hate opening the front door just to unlock the back door to let my daughter in. I found 2 used remotes on ebay for $30 a year or so ago. You can program these yourself.. the procedure is posted on here somewhere. __________________ - Joe - '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I6 4.0L 242TC - Extreme Engineering 2" Front Lift/1.75" Rear Lift - ES9000 Shocks + JKS BPEs Moog Cargo Control Springs Magnaflow Converter - Dynomax Muffler 235/75/15 AT Uniroyal Liberator Tires Last edited by -Joe- : 02-08-2007 at 10:53 PM. |

Registered User Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Lancaster, OH Posts: 12 | Not sure if plugging a site is a no-no... but I was just looking for this to see if I could find out if my Jeep had one, and came across a site called keylessride.com If you type in your VIN it will guide you through a check to see if your car came with a keyless remote. Mine ended up having one, and I found out that was what that big black half sphere was in the overhead console. They have original replacement plus an aftermarket one. Original replacement was ~150 the other was ~50. The factory one looked just like that one that PlatinumZJ posted, but the other was smaller and had a carbon fiber type of texture. The prices also included programming. Was pretty nice. I liked the ones for the 1997 models and up though. Hope this helps a little Marty |
