Got a ? about lifts

I have a 97 Grand, I want to lift it and put some 32x11.50's on it, I want it for looks only not heavy off roading the most off road it will see is a little mud, I am looking at the rancho 3 inch lift with upgraded rancho shocks and a 2 inch BB.

If there is a better lift for my taste please let me know.

Chris,

you need to shop around before you buy rancho unless you are getting it dirt cheap. That kit doesn't come with everything that you'll need for the lift like brake lines, front and rear trackbar upgrades and shocks.

Take a look at www.nagca.com and www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums. Look through the photos or member rigs and see the lifts and mods that others have and then you can pick and choose.

I've been running the RE 4.5 kit for quite awhile. I've logged over 40K on it. I've run 32s and now 33s with other mods.

If you are looking for 5 inches of lift then get the 4.5 with everything and run the 32s. IF you need more, then you aren't stuck with the 3.5 and bb and looking for another way to get more height.

I called 4wheelparts and I can get the rancho system with upgraded shocks (5000s) and 4, 32x11.50 tsl sx's for 1339 shipped to my door.

This is goin to be my first lifted vehicle, what all parts will I need to complete the lift?

I was just looking at the RE 4.5 kit and this is the parts it comes with,Component Quantity
T-CASE LOWERING KIT XJ/ZJ 1
TRACK BAR XJ/MJ/ZJ/TJ 3"+ 1
TRACK BAR BRACKET ZJ REAR 1
COIL SPRINGS ZJ 4.5" FRONT 1
COIL SPRINGS ZJ 4.5" REAR 1
BUMP STOPS 2" ZJ REAR 1
BUMP STOP 2" FRT XJ/ZJ/TJ 1
BRAKE LINES SS FT XJ/MJ/ZJ/C 1
CONTROL ARM SF2 LOWER FIXED 1
CONTROL ARM SF2 LOWER ADJ 1
CONTROL ARM SR2 UPPER FT FIX 1
CONTROL ARM SF2 UPPER RR ADJ 1
SWAY BAR DISC SET W/ 6" CENT 1
SWAY BAR DISCONNECT ADAPTER BRACKET XJ-ZJ 1
SWAY BAR DISCONNECT ADAPTER BRACKET TJ-ZJ 96+ 1
SWAY BAR END LINKS REAR ZJ 1

The first thing is that it does not show shocks, so will I have to buy shocks on top of the 1200 price tag?

Are all of these parts really needed for that much lift? Like I said it will be mostly street driven with a little mudding, nothing more than it sees in stock form so do I really need all the those parts?

If I don't I really was not looking to spend that much but if I have to I will.

well if you're not going to off-road it, or at least not anything agressive you could do without:

extended bumpstops: these prevent excessive upward travel of the wheel during heavy flex
control arms: i am assuming these are all new one's and not just lowering brackets. new ones will align your axel correctly taking into account the lift but many people do without them

you will have to get extended sway bar links and extended brake lines.

no, shocks are not included in this kit. But a word of advice, if at all possible don't get stuck with the Rancho 5000's. they ride entirely to stiff. especially for you who will be on street a vast majority of the time.

If you get the 4.5 from RE, yes you will need all those parts. IF you don't, you'll soon wish that you did. Don't do something halfa$$ and expect it to work all the time.

Chris,

you have called one of the most expensive places to get your lift.

Go to www.kevinsjeepparts.com and give him a call or email.

Email Nick at Kolak@aol.com (he has great stuff)

Pick up a couple of mags and do some searching. 4wheelparts is the easiest and they know that.

That is why they jack up the price.
