Glove compartment latch broke -- now what?

Has anyone had a glove compartment latch break on them? Mine broke and unfortunately I can't figure out how to open it. Any suggestions as I'm drawing a blank as to how I get this open.

Thanks.

There are 6 screws under the glove box that hold it on. Unscrew them and yank it out. Should pop right off the latch. Then go to the junk yard and get a new glove box.

if you pry down a little bit on the top of the glove box, you may be able to get a screwdriver on the two screws that hold the catch to the dash... there are two tabs on the catch that can be accessed if you unscrew the top dash cover enough to get a little room. if you yank there is a good chance of breaking a lot of plastic dash pieces.

unscrew the bottoms and pry off the two rivets and that will free up the bottom.

oh and yes, my jeep is a 93, but i transplanted a 96 dash in...

Last night I got it open by pushing down on the bottom half of the latch area that was broken which disengaged the latch. Now that I have it open I'm having some trouble figuring out how to get to the latch. I did see the screws + 2 rivets and I think I'll just drill out the 2 rivets. Then I need to find a replacement or see if I can swap in.

does is seems like its jammed and the key won't turn? Mine did that so i look off the screws holding the lock itself and it jams up their and holds the glove box shut.

The glovebox for 96+ is different. Mine is broken too, I'm waiting to find another one but I'm just gonna take the screws out and pull as was previously suggested. It seems it's a fairly common occurrence in ZJ's to have a glovebox only for decoration.

I ended up getting it opened by pushing down on the plastic where the handle broke (it just pushes on a lever connected to the locking mechanism). I then removed the inside screws that held the glove box in place. Removed the latch mechanism then reassembled with the screws. I then bought some sticky back Velcro from Home Depot and used that to keep the glove box closed. $3.50 solution vs buying a new handle or drilling out the rivet. I found that once you get the screws out you have to pry open the plastic to get to the locking mechanism, then it snaps back into place.

Add me to the list. I got a kick out of all those pry marks. How many curse words does it require?

Im about to go the junk yard in a few weeks and someone tried to break in and steal my stuff but the handle broke... if i find one at the junk yard to fit my jk 2014 will it work with my jeep key or are they individual to the key. if all the jeep keys work then i feel apart of a large family already

My moms ex BF when driving our 4.0 ZJ did this... Broke the handle and the keyhole SOMEHOW.. so i had to go to a junkyard and get one off another ZJ along with the key for that ZJ because abviously that lock requires that key.. Was kinda a pain in the *** but i managed to get it..

I think I'm just going to go to the dealership... it will set me back $50 but I feel like the junk yards by me won't have the key or give it to me

Isn't there a way to swap the key tumbler to the new one? My latch broke a month ago or so, and I haven't gotten to the junkyard for a replacement. I may wait until after winter.
