A girl with power issues ...

I don't normally power-trip, but I thought this forum would be a good place to start

I have a Ďmaybeí sunroof. Maybe it opens, maybe it doesnít - most times not. I have a dreaded fear that one day it will stop working in the open position, then Iíll have do to some heavy negotiation with someone who has covered parking. The motor on it is relatively quiet so I cannot tell if itís the switch or the motor. Is there any way to check?

Another power issue I have is with the locks. The keyless entry/alarm will only unlock the driverís side door intermittently. The double-press to unlock the rest of the vehicle is fine. Itís just a problem with the driverís side door. Sometimes it takes me 5 or 6 tries before itíll unlock. I swear that I can hear the little motor trying to unlock it, but in the end it doesnít. How many different things do I need to check out to figure out what the deal is with the locks? Also, there are times when I use the inside button to lock the doors, when using the keyless fob wonít work, and itíll lock everything except the front passenger door.

Any thoughts?

Mahalo in advance to all who help me!

The locks.
I would pull the door panel off and hose all the linkages and locking mechanism down with some lube. PB Blaster or WD40 to loosen them up.
If that doesn't work... the lock actuator motors are probably shot. But start with the lube... it's the easiest and first thing to try.

The sunroof.
Could be the switch or the motor.
If you pull the switch out you can use a jumper wire to by pass the switch and see if it opens and closes the roof everytime... if it does... then you know you have a bad switch.... if it doesnt... you know you have a bad motor. But it's most likely the swtich... Jeep seems to be lacking in the switch design department

hahaha. there really isn't a "you're welcome" in Hawaiian...

that ****ing sunroof.

Be careful that if it does get stuck, that its not even the slightest bit in the open position (so that the wind bar is down, and the window is still cracked.) I was driving across an interstate bridge towards an airport when both the glass and the plastic interior cover popped off from the wind and pressure. It scared the **** out of everyone in the car and our ears all popped. I'm just glad it didn't hit anyone behind us. Needless to say, the motor still works great but most of the track that holds the glass is gone. I got a sunroof specialist to silicone in a piece of glass from a 97 grand.

Sunroof -> Moonroof conversion complete. $150 including installation.

And hey, where that plastic cover was I can store my cd's and other crap!

Excellent lemons to lemonade!

When it does work, I have a hard time getting it to stop in the proper seated position. Sometimes it wants to either pop the back of the window (when I'm closing it from it being slid back), or it wants to open (when I'm closing it from it being popped open on the back).

I'm sure I'm just playing with fire when I open it. Let's hope that I can find someone who can test the switch and motor before it decides to stop working all together.

Although there can never be too much CD strorage

Mahalo to all!
