This is just an idea, since you have to buy a carrier you may as well put that money towards a used 44a that wont need a new carrier since it has 3:73's. You might get a track lock in there and be able to work on it while your Jeep is still on the road reducing downtime.

I really don't see the need for a D44.. I don't any off roading, plus with the added weight of the D44 it will rob a lot of power too..
I think I will just get me some 4.10s and a carrier..
thanks for the good info though

Call Randy's Ring & Pinion or visit their website. Their tech sales guys know a lot and even my local drivetrain shop can't beat their prices on gears, lockers, and other parts. I've been using them for about 8 years and they keep getting better and better.

hmm that is a good website. They have some loaded carriers already.. But I cannot find any for a ZJ with 4.10s...
so i would need 4.10 gears (2), install kit (2) and do I need 2 carriers for front and rear or jsut the rear?

Yes you will need a 3.73 and higher carrier for the front. The rear is good to go with 3.55 and higher.

Sounds right. Just tell them what you have and what you want. They'll know exactly what to get you and you can trust their advice. Also, make sure to tell them if you have a limited slip in the D35.

sooooo I do have limited slip in the rear? I wasn't sure... So when I do my diff fluid change I will need to add the friction modifier back there. I wasnt sure if I had LS n the rear
What shop do I call?? The one in Washington, California or Tennesse?

No, I said to tell them "if" you have an LS in the rear D35. I'm a WJ guy, so I'm not sure how they spec'd the ZJ axles. I would assume that you don't have it and can always get the friction modifier later. But you should try to find out in advance in case the carrier is affected by what's in there (Dana Trac-lok?). Unless of course, you want to replace it. Probably need a ZJ guy to chime in regarding the limited slip thing. Also, call Washington. That is their first shop location and "headquarters".

your top speed will increase as well. numerically, that doesn't sound right but you're bogging with the tall gear. a shorter gear allows the motor to rev higher which means it makes more power which means it can push a brick through the air easier. you will go faster....not that i recommend it.

Yup... The 31" tall tires are to tall for stock 3.55 gearing...
