gears for 32's?

I was gonna make the jump to 33x12.5 after having my 31's for a year and thinking they look small now but then I realized my wheels were only 7 inches wide and were relatively new. Since buying new wheels is out of the picture I figured I would just move to 32x11.5 instead.

My question is Im still at stock gearing (3.55) and was wondering whether 4.10 or 4.56 would be better. I did use the gear ratio calculator in the FAQ's but I just wanted some personal opinions

I would make the jump to 4.56 since you have the 4.0 as well as to prepare you for the future just in case you decide to run 33s.

x2 for 4.56's. That's what my plan is with 32's (then when they are worn, bump up to 33's)

I'd bump to 4.10, just cause you'd get better freeway mileage, especially if you drive it 95% on the pavement. Its also a god balance for power too.

My friends explorer runs 3.73 on his 33's and gets pretty good mileage. 4.10 would be perfect.

Right, but 4.56's give head room if he wants to go up to 33's.

It depends on how you drive really. It will be different for sure but it all depends.

I know, and 32's will be on hopefully this weekend so I need to make up my mind soon (whether to keep the turdy 5 and regear or buy a d44a and regear).

If you didn't care about mileage (since it's a Jeep!), would 4.56 or 4.10 be better for power and acceleration on the street?

Why? Wouldn't 4.56's be better acceleration? In case your wondering, I go wheeling with a buddy that has a 5.9 Durango and it's always a competition to see whose Vehicle is better. I, obviously, am more capable off road, but he always wants to race and I don't give a crap about mpgs so what gears would be better to smoke him at the strip? And yes, i have taken my lifted Jeep on m/t's to the drag strip in case your wondering!

Higher gears = better acceleration. 4.56 will get you up and moving a lot faster than 4.10.

2003 WJ in Jeep Green Metallic, 4.0/242/4.10's. 4" Teraflex springs w/ RE monotube shocks and IRO short arms, cheap intake w/ amsoil filter, 2.5" hi flow cat and back exhaust, lots of lights and other misc crap.

It's lower gears, not higher.

I still think 4.10 would be the perfect balance for power and mileage. You probably want lower rpms if your DD.
