Gearing options. Looking for opinions.

Jeep is back on the road, going to take it on one last trip before i bed it in the garage for my winter build. Here is the core of what i'm planning:

- Regear front HP30 to ???
- IRO 3.5" Benchmark lift
- 31s
- Bunch of cosmetic work

But what to gear to.... My HP30 was 3.05 (3.08? something like that) so I'm stuck in 2wd until thats fixed. I have replacement 3.55 gears with about 30k miles on them. I know that is harder to set up than new gears.

If i go new gears I figure might as well get 3.73 and do the rear too. But now I just added another $400 to the build.

Cheap would be do the front at 3.55, but that puts me just below the regearing chart:

For 31's 4.10s are about ideal, but I don't think the cost to jump from 3.55s to 4.10s is worth it unless you plan to stay with 31" tires

Yeah, the faq I referenced in my original post. I read it, I know it says 4.10s. What I guess I'm asking is who has ran 31s on 3.55 and what is your experience.

Or maybe you have a more thorough opinion other than read the sticky.

Many here have run 31s and stock 3.55s with a 4.0. It's alright, but MPG's and acceleration will drop some. 33's and 3.55's are not a good idea. I ran it for a while and hated it. If you have to regear the front anyway, go to 4.10's. If you are going to a bigger tire later, go to 4.56's and be done. Just my .02.

98ZJ, 4.0,242, 8.8 Detroit, hp30, 3.5" lift, IRO LA's 4.56's, 33" Firestone MT's, custom rear bumper, ARB front, Engo E9000, factory skids
