Gas Milage v8 awd system?

Hello everybody, I just sold my Wrangler to get a GC and I was just wondering about the gas milage with the v8 coupled with the all wheel drive system. I will be doing almost all of my driving on road and I am refering to the GC's from 1999-2004, so the 4.7 liter engine. I would rather have the part time system so that I could keep it in 2wd on the road but that is hard to find with the v8's and a limited so I'm just trying to see what the difference would be in milage.

Why are you looking for the selectrac and the Limited? I dont think that was an option. There are, however, Laredos that came with the selectrac(have the 2wd) and the v8(quite a few around where I live). Just so you know, you will not gain any gas mileage from the 2wd vs the awd systems if thats why you wanted it. I get according to the computer about 18.5mpg so far and thats mostly city and one, one hr trip on the highway. I am actually getting better gas mileage than when I had the I6. I will be calculating this tank so I will see how close the computer is as I am curious as well. Usually close to 20 or more on the freeway and 16-18 in town.

Sorry, but it's not an AWD system in the manner you thinking.
The NV247 is an on-demand 4-wheel drive transfer case with two operating ranges and a neutral position. Under normal driving conditions, the system operates conventionally, and the majority of available torque is applied to the rear wheels. However, when front-to-rear wheel speed variations exist, the progressive differential transfers torque to the axle withthe better traction, thus minimizing wheel spin and maximizing .

The 16/18 in city and 20 highway is certainly wishful thinking, probably around 16/17 overall mileage with the '01 and up with the 5 A/T. Great T/C, bur doesn't like anything other than the 247 fluid, and likes changes @ every 30,000 miles. Actualy the 242 with the selector in PT, the mileage wiill be worse as the front and rears require more power to operate continuously.

Thanks for the help guys. And as far as the limited's not being offered with the part time system thats not true, its just that the standard was the awd system in the limited's and if you wanted the PT system you had to order it that way so there are some out there like that I have seen a few. If you guys have any more thoughts on this please let me know, I want the v8 but my dad is pushing me to get the 6 for fuel efficiency which I don't believe will be much better. The extra cost of gas will be worth the extra power in my book.

the 4.7 and the 4.0 get about the same gas mileage 1-2 mpg difference so i would not worry about it.
