Full rebuild option

So my zj has 205k on it. Original trans original engine. Engine still strong. Trans as most chryslers is on its way out. Trans rebuild with "beefing up" for towing quoted at 1600. Found a place that sells reman'd engines for about 1800. Question is do I go ahead and spend roughly $5k to breathe new life into this 1996 or just let her go and get a new truck. I really like my zj, especially since its paid for lol. I just need it to tow my boat which weighs prob 4500lb. Going to regear axles to 4.56 in near future if I keep it

Like you said, the ZJ is paid for, and you like it. Why go in to debt to buy something else? If you're not going new, you will have some sorting out to do on whatever you buy to "make it yours". If the ZJ is solid body-wise, keep it and do the tranny. The engine is optional at this point.

True. I already did the borg warner solenoid upgrade kit and adjusted the bands. Shifts alot better but now I believe the culprit is the tc. Cruising at hwy speeds it feels like it momentarily unlocks and then locks. Like a small surge. Prob strained the pump first time I pulled my boat. I'm on 33s and still runnin 3.73s. So I need to regear before summer lol.

20 years ago I was happy to get 100k from a transmission. I'd go reman'd which normally carries better warranty.

Jasper has good transmissions, if you can afford it. Pretty sure the warranty is 3yr/100k miles.

94 ZJ Laredo. 5.2 Crate engine. 6in JKS SA Lift. 33in Destination MTs. ARB Front Bumper.

The shop has done a couple jobs for friends and also my fathers ram. He backs his work up with a 2 year. He got my dads ram right. No problems there.
