Fuel pump or relay
93 grand Cherokee, won't start disabled the alarm as it was a problem before, then i thought it might be a TDC sensor, just used some starting fluid and it turned over and ran briefly. How do you easily check the relay and pump to see which is bad, I hear the relay clicking (if its under that black box w/ those fuses under the hood next to the right side wheel well. and whats' a ball park cost on a new pump. Thanks ya all

Does the pump run for 1-2 seconds when you turn the key? Get a second person to turn the key while you listen at the tank..
Pull your engine codes for the fun of it.. (Free no need to take it anywhere.. Check the FAQ) Swap the relay with another..

Ok I'll try that tomorrow but I was also advised that it could be a bad PCM if that so then would it not start at all regardless of me pouring fuel directly into the carb?

But yes people have had the caps in the pcm cause slow starting pumps.. Usually the pump will just kick on much slower after leaving the key in the run position for a bit..

You should get a 12, any other codes then a 55
or 1 blink pause then 2 blinks for 12..

Ok Joe that makes since as code 12 shows a battery disconnect in the last 50 starts..,.. Which i am guilty of as I've been tinkering around with it for the past day or so. I'm trying not to rack my brain as this is a n old car that my teen aged kid bought with his pay from his part time job, The overall condition of it is good w/ great rubber, beside his alarm problem that we corrected the things ran fine for over 6 months

If no codes other then 12 and 55 move on to the fuel pump.. listen to see if it kicks on when you turn the key or if it turns on like 20 seconds later..
It will only run for 1-2 seconds then shutoff until the engine is started then it runs continously. Still could be a sensor without any codes though

Ok I got a break from the weather and work Got under it and heard nothing, nada, no buzzing, no humming from the gas tank, nor did I feel any vibrations on the plastic. As I said I did switch the relays around as they're more than one of the same in the relay box. and I did hear the relay click. So is a bad pump common? is there another trick I'm missing. As I also said I pour fuel directly into the carb open the butterfly and she starts and runs fine until that fuel is used up. And if I got to drop the tank any is there anything I need to be careful of?
