fuel leakage after filling tank

ok heres a goofy one i was filling my ZJ the other day and in the driveway there was fuel on the ground under the tank. Being an auto technician i fill to the first time it clicks then return the pump nozzle to the pump. because you dont want fuel going into the vapor recovery system and damage the valves and such. anyhow if there is a leak the fuel tank pressure sensor should see no pressure buildup and turn on the check engine light for an evap code. anybody ever experience this ?

no jeff i havent yet all i know is it seems to be leaking at the top of the tank. it isnt a pressure leak at any of the fuel lines. i havent had time to drop the tank and inspect thoroughly. just wondered if anyone has seen this. like i said the check engine light should turn on if the rediness test for the evap system sees the leak via fuel tank pressure. then it would fail the rediness test and turn on the check engine light. seems wierd how could it leak and not turn on the light. i dunno, i am dropping the tank very soon, in addition i need to pull the transfer case for a 231 swap, also REMOVE THE RUNNING BOARDS!!!! i have to scrap an old ranger thats in the driveway and then i have space to work. i am scrapping this weekend.

perhaps it leaks only after the partial vacuum has been dissipated from the system
