I'm thinking of getting one of those smoke colored plastic wind deflectors that mount at the front of the hood. Do these work well? How are they to mount, is it fairly easy, does it do any damage to the car? A buddy put one on his Durango, but it had these various stickers (for pads) that he had to put on the hood (and thus on the paint), etc. I'm hoping for a real clean installation.
On my '99 it was screwed on from the inside of the hood, and it had the rubber bumpers stuck on the outside. They don't hurt the paint as long as it's clean when they are put on.If you install it, I'd say wash the car, then wash the front of the hood with dish soap or something to strip the wax off, then put them on and wax it. Otherwise the rubber pads may not stay put. They'll slide up the hood.
The Mopar deflector has been effective in protecting the front of the hood and for keeping some of the junk off the windshield.
Two things:
Instead of sticking the urethane bumpers to the hood stick them to the underside of the deflector. It'll do the same job and won't screw up the paint.
I didn't want a smoked deflector on our all white Durango. The parts dealer got me a clear deflector with the underside painted white to match the truck color. Looks great.
it has saved me from alot of Highway rocks cracking my windsheild or putting dings in the paint.... good investment..
