Front to Rear spring swap, what to use for fronts?
I'm going to the pull and pay to get the front v8 zj springs for the rear of my 4.0. Are there any other springs out there that I might find in the junk yard to put in the front, or will I need to buy something new?

you could get front springs from a lifted XJ, if you could tell it was lifted anyway, they also would lift your ZJ.
if you search some more, you may find some references to F150 springs too, but I don't have a link for you.

I used Rubicon Express 3.5" for mine and it sits pretty even with the V8 UpCountry springs in the rear. I'd guess overall I'm at around 4".

Your profile doesn't list your engine, but I'm guessing you must have a 4.0l or you wouldn't be hitting the wrecker for V8 springs.
How high do you want to go? If 3", put the V8 springs in the front with your BB, and your stock I6 springs in the rear.
If you want to go 4", put the V8s in the rear and all 4 of your BB spacers on the front. I know some people will probably post that they'd never go with 4" or spacers all around, but in the front it's just fine. The "bumpstop post" (or whatever it's called) off the "frame" is certainly long enough that 4" of spacers would never cause a problem.
I've gone to 3" with I6 front springs all around, and 3" spacers in the front. I tried the V8 springs in the rear, but they had more lift than I wanted and they were quite stiff, so I went with the I6 after all.

GTFO. A 3" BB is trouble. Stacking TWO 2" BBs is disaster waiting to happen.

There is no way I would use double spacers. I was actually trying to go without spacers. I do have the 4.0 engine. I read that the V8 springs will give the rear about 3" lift, which is about what I'm going for. I want to clear 31" tires. I thought about these 3" spacers I found.

NO. ive asked the same in the past & I heeded their advice. Trim the bottom portion of your front bumper & 31's will easily fit w/ a 2"BB

I have in the past used Fat Bob's spacers. They are okay but you should just find springs to install up front. I did not like the spacers when I had them. Every time I turned there was a pop sound . I looked under the front and the springs were pushed down to were it would hit the metal next to were the spring saddle is. I think pucks suck my 2 cents.

I love that face palm!! Now then, instead of simply admonishing, could you please educate the ignorant (obviously me!) and explain why 3" spacers are "trouble," and why stacked spacers are a "disaster waiting to happen?" I currently have about 250,000kms, over 15 years, in two Jeeps (XJ & ZJ) on my 3" spacers. I bought them from a guy who was replacing them with... wait for it... 4" spacers ! Last time I saw that XJ, it had 13 years on it with that lift, but I can't vouch for the mileage. Keep in mind though mine are billet aluminum spacers, which were made up because custom turned aluminum spacers made by a machinist were (are?) cheaper than the poly versions sold online...
Seriously, I'm not sure what the general dislike of spacers is about, I've never seen any explanation of the opinion. I can only guess people worry about the spring shifting sideways, but it's securely located on the bumpstop post in the center of the spring - as is the spacer. If neither the springs nor the spacers can move, what is it that people are concerned with? Help me out Josh, Ryan? Any good pics of past carnage?
(OK, I think I'm ready for another face palm - or worse!)

The problem w/ spacers larger then 2" is that there is not enough of the bump stop left at that point to secure the spring.
I suppose if you never flex it out, that may not be a problem, but springs falling out is a BAD thing.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this. Bort is right, up front you don't have much of the bumpstop post left with 2.25" spacers. With 3 or 4" you wouldn't have anything to hold the spring in place! Forget wheeling with a setup like that...

Just get the 3.5" springs from IRO and be done w/ it. I wish I would have. Instead I am riding around a hair low in the rear and you can tell those front v8 springs are not made for the rear by the way they ride.
Do it right the first time.
