front end binding in turns

Looking for some help. Just bought a 97' GC V8 Limited AWD with the 249J transfer case. Problem is; whenever I turn into my driveway or wherever, the front end binds and the vehicle does not want to move forward. I took off the front drive shaft and the problem disappears. Leads me to believe that there is a problem in the trasfer case. Any help is well appreciated. Thanks.

Could be either the VC or the vscous coupler?

Yep, after ten years, I just replaced mine.

Its the VC. You can buy a reman or new 249, or swap in a 242.

I replaced the 249 in mine with a rebuild from level 10 that replaces the VC with a clutch, after my jeep went through its second VC.
