well I was wheeling today and my front u joints started squeaking. and rather than do it myself I'm just gunna have the thing rebuilt if I can find a place locally. my question is if I pull the shaft will any fluild leak out of the tc?
btw I have a np231

nope, you can do that without hurting a thing. removing the rear DS will leak fluid, but not the front.

Are you sure the u-joints are squeaking? Usually a bad bearing in the hub will lead to that. Regardless, neither are too terribly difficult to replace with the help of a friend.

it only does it in 4wd.

Nevermind. You're talking about the driveshaft u-joint, not axle one probably.

Nothing afaik...perhaps rebalancing it. If you're going to have it rebalanced, and you 4-wheel, you might as well just have a new bigger diameter shaft built (with slightly thinner tubing).

If you have the dual cardan type shaft you probably should change the centering ball assembly when you change the u-joints. It is a cause of noise in the front driveline (often noted as angry squirrels ).

Mine was squeeking too and it was the CV joint with the two U joints and the ball. Make sure you do the ball too.

I had a guy in my local jeep club tell me i could do a body lift on my dub... he dosen't come to very many functions anymore
