I am going to be swaping out the orig. front drive shaft out of my 5.9 (Cv to a double cardan) I ordered the new front yolk for the dana 30. Can i just remove the current yolk nut and replace with the new yolk?? is there anything else I should be aware of?? I am doing this for my 4.5 RE lift. I searched but could not find an answer. I have heard somthing about a pre load?? Then I have heard as long as the wheels don't move when you replace it, it will be fine????
Thanx!!!

Not an easy task Elk. Are you planning on taking it in to an experienced shop ?

Yes, you can just take off the old yoke and put on the new yoke. It takes a lot of torque to get the nut loose without air tools. Before loosening the pinion nut, you can paint/scribe a line from the nut to the pinion shaft. When tightening the pinion nut back down with the new yoke (it takes a lot of torque), re-align the markings you made for the proper pre-load. With this method you have to be sure that you dont over tighten or under tighten the pinion nut.
The wheel moving thing you mention is when loosening/tightening the pinion nut, it turns the pinion shaft and gears causing the Jeep to lunge foward/backwards if its on the ground (the nut's on there tight and its gotta be tight). If its jacked up, the wheels will just spin.
If your not sure about doing the work yourself, take it to a shop.
