Front Diff Breather Hose torn off '94 grand cherokee 5.2 V8

Ive been getting a clunking noise in sharp turns, a whining noise at speed and horrible propane like smell coming from the front end.

I looked around and seen a hose hanging down, I believe this is the breather/overflow hose for the front diff, it is firmly attached to the front difft but the other end looks sheered off and it doesnt appear to reach anything else, would this cause all the above problems?

Where is this hose supposed to go? Engine? Transmission? Radiator? I cant tell where its supposed to go and it doesnt appear to reach anything, so Im assuming it blew off and got torn in half whilst driving or something.

Would this also cause the diff oil to drain out? Are the transmission and Diff fluids seperate? Does this mean I need to refill the diff fluid?

Thanks for any help

All breather hoses attach to one thing and are used as a vent, allowing whatever they are connected to to breathe. It should be secured up as high as it can be.

Theres no visible places any hose would connect anywhere around the air intake or engine, I cant see another end of a hose at all, Theres so much stuff in this engine bay I cant tell a damn thing, Can you give me a specific place to look? front of the engine near the alternator? or at the back near the firewall? top of the engine or bottom? etc

There is oil dripping out the end of this hose also

Thanks

yes this hose is important! its a vent hose. it goes form the diff to a point up on the vehicle as high as the top of the radiator to keep water out. so repair that and service the diff and repair any leaks. that is about all i can tell you!! but let me know how every thing works out..

Again, the hose doesn't connect anywhere. It just needs to be secured as high as possible in the engine bay.

You should try replacing the fluid in your axle also...

The front Differential breather tube attaches to the side of the air box.

I had that hose fall down and wrap around the front driveshaft, taking out the front pinion seal in the process. To add insult to injury, my inlaws were in the back seat when it happened.

to clarify slightly, is clips to it but doesn't run into it.

So its just an open ended tube? how does it work? i zip tied it to a bracket however i dont believe it will stay like that for long, it has to have gotten shredded because its not long enough to get very far.

Ive looked at the side of the air box, I dont see anything where it could clip to, so i guess the mounting and the clip must have gone too. Ive got it booked in at a garage tomorrow so Ill get back to ya'll with the diagnosis.

Thanks for the Help

it's a vent tube to allow air to escape or return into the front diff, all you need to do is run it to a high enough place that water won't get to it. it doesn't plug into anything on the top end. and it either clips to the side of the air box or theres a clip on the inner fender for it. if nothing's there just zip tie it as high up as you can.

propane smell is an odd one, could be your cat going bad, though that's just a stab in the dark.
clunking could be bad cv joints in your axles since it's only in sharp turns, torn boots are usually a good sign that they're bad or going bad soon.
whining could be the pinion bearing, bad gear mesh in the ring and pinion or spider gears, bad carrier bearings, bad wheel bearings. without narrowing down where the sound is coming from and getting into it to look it's hard to diagnose over the internet.

yeah my breather tube for the rear diff came off wherever it normally is secured to when I was doing the lift, I ziptied it up to one of the fuel lines and now I hear a whining noise when Im moving. Im guessing this is the cause? Didnt think that much noise could come out of that little tube.
