Front CV style Drive Shaft

ok, I guess they are rare because I just went to the Junk Yard to look for one and every ZJ I looked at (about 8) had the u-joint one.... Mine was a CV where it bolted up to the axle and a double cardan where it goes onto the TC.. so I need one because mines done and I was wondering if any one knew where I could get one cheep and if they used the same ones on maybe some of the cherokees?

Thanks
Dillon

You should be able to find one off of car-part.com or even people on here who have upgraded from the CV to U-joint ?

If you plan on lifting your jeep though, you should steal the yoke from their axle and use the U-joint style...that would make a lot more sense.

good luck. I have been looking for one for about 6 mos. I have been driving the jeep the whole time and it's been off the jeep. Better gas mileage too.

When you put it back in, I'd be willing to bet your VC is shot

Not hard at the tcase, but at the pinion I would have a shop do it. The preload needs to be measured and matched.

Its just one big nut holding the yoke on.

I did mine, and didnt brig it to a shop, no issues. Simply make sure the bold is clean, mark it with a felt marker at the end of the nut. Take it off, put on the new u-joint style yoke, and tighten the nut back up to the felt line. They key is making sure the metal flange on both yolks measure the same, if one is a little bigger or smaller than the other, you will need to make sure you take off/add that to your felt line. Been driving on it over 6 months with no issues.

I completely agree with that statement, I just a had a friend with me whose done it a few times on a few vehicles, and had no issues, so I trusted him more than me. If your not comfortable, bring it to a shop, it wont cost much, and you have peace of mind knowing you couldnt have screwed it up, lol

mine is going to have to be replaced to dillion - we have same type -- mine actually is doing this whining noise when ur driving -- soon as you let off the gas it stops - resumes when u push the gas again...i think its reallly great of Chrysler to make something you can't service! Napa has them new for about 300 bucks! Nice right!
