Found a Ford 8.8

There is an old man parting out a 92 Explorer. It has an 8.8 with drum brakes. I am pretty sure I can get it for dirt cheap. What do I need to look for? Do I need to check if it has ABS? Is there anything else I need to snag other than the axle? Can I convert the drums to disk? Would it be worth converting drums to disk? I was trying to find out what gear ratio it had but the tag was just a whole bunch of random #'s.

Bill,

did you miss the search function after finding the 8.8?

BTW, Superior makes a Super 88 upgrade for that axle.

I didn't miss it. I tried to use it. I just got a whole bunch of threads of you guys telling other people they should just get an 8.8

Thanks Hunter!!

The Super 88 doesn't convert drums to disk though. Should I keep looking for an 8.8 with disk brakes?

Okay,

You weren't invited last year, why do you think you'd be invited this year?

Make sure it is the 31 spline count ...
Pop the cover and the gear ratio will be stamped on the ring gear.

Thanks Hunter. I found the info I needed. Seems to be a HUGE PITA!! I don't know if I really want to do it now. The man said I can have it for $100. It seems like if you don't find one with disk brakes and the right gearing, it will cost a small fortune to make it work. As far as ABS goes. It seems like you can make it work but looks like another PITA.

I am thinking about just doing a Super 35. I know, whipped cream on an onion.

From what I hear around here, you are the whipped cream!

You have the Super 35? How do you like it?
