Found the best mod for my WJ

Well, after long last, my WJ will no longer be my Daily Driver. The wife wants another Sebring, so off I go tomorrow to find her one, got my eye on one across the river. I've decided to keep her car since it's paid for and use it as my daily driver. So the best mod for my WJ ends up being a sebring Her current one really is not that bad, it's a 98 convertible with 130K, uses a little oil, but it runs great. So now, I'm not really worried about mpg anymore, or adding ton's of weight to it, maybe I'll start parking it outside so I can lift it higher

Also, I got that job I mentioned about a week ago, just got to decide if I really want to take it. It's about a 30 minute drive and it's in downtown STL, so that might suck, but it is a 20K raise a year, not quite 6 figures yet, but I'm getting there...MORE JEEP STUFF FOR ME

I guess that 10 years of night school while being married and raising two kids is starting to pay off. SO let me sound like the old fuddy duddy and say "Stay in school kids"

Ken,
It is a good mod and a bad mod at the same time. I have a company car and my wife didn't want to drive the jeep I was modding anymore since we just had a baby. So yippee, my jeep was then all mine and no longer a DD. However, that has only led me to mod the jeep more with less regard to driveability.

Ya it is the best mod in the world!

This is my first mod........since it's retirement from DD duty.

I do agree though, that first one usually gives you that sense of accomplishment and then it's all down hill from there.

Congrats Ken, six figures will be there soon enough!

Why wouldn't you take a 20k raise though? 30 minutes doesn't sound like a terrible commute...

Well, I'm about 5 minutes from the base I work on now. The 30 minute drive isn't what bother's me it's the freakin STL traffic, anybody that's been here back me up, It's horrible. Hopefully I can bypass some of it, the job is 12 hour shifts, 5 pm to 5 am (I'm usually up that late anyway, I'm a night owl) but it's like 2 days on 3 days off, 2 on 2 off, so it's a little different than I'm use to. Not to mention I start with no vacation and I told them in the interview I had to be off that weekend in May for Woody's run. I tell ya, that could have been the deal breaker right there for me, they said I could take leave witout pay if I was scheduled to work...so Woody, if I am scheduled to work, just know when you see me there that it's costing me nearly $39 an hour.

Being a former resident of Belleville, IL I can say that a commute to STL at those times won't be too terribly bad...difinately worth the money. I live about 60 miles from Denver right now, and have to go down there about 2 times a month...it's an easy drive, but SAFB to STL is easier. Although, I can just look right and see the mountains, which makes the drive that much easier. Anyway, sweet WJ and hope everything works out for the best...also check out www.sija.org, great group of guys (former member here).

Later,

Court

Congrats on the job! That's great news. And I agree, stay in school kids! I took two years off half way through college, and was fortunate enough to be able to go back and finish. Definitely paid off! Well...my education isn't paid off, but you know what I mean. And yes, Stl. traffic at the wrong time, on the wrong road, can suck. Hopefully your route to work isn't too bad. Enjoy that Sebring!

I did look at them earlier, you know me to well, unfortunately I have to see what I got left after the deal on the wife's car. It is kind of funny though, I told her since it was now my car I ordered a nice set of 17" 5 spokes and some BFG g-force tires to go on it, she said, Why did you do that? and I said we been married 14 + years and you have to ask that question, the only time I drive a stock car is off the lot What's even better is that she kind of nodded her head like she understood I attached a pic of those wheels, pretty nice.

And Court, I hang out with a few of those guys also, I'm not a full club member yet, but I participte here and there, usually popup runs. They are a really cool family orriented group.

I was planning on driving the jeep at least once a week, it will be funny to see how people will move out of your way when your bearing down on them in a lifted Jeep with a big ole bumper on the front vs a little car. JEEP > Sebring in that department everytime unless of course there's a hotty in that Sebring you want to go around ya

ahh... the dreaded "10 minute drive downtown" that can take up to 2 hours on a good day

St. Louis traffic is pretty bad and they are ALWAYS working on the same highways whenever I go through there, year after year.

But yeah, just monitor traffic and there are often 15 minute windows you can blow through there or work some off-hours and not the typical 8-5 and you just might be ok.
