Fire in my 5.9

Not sure what happened?? Started the Jeep up this mornin to go to work, about halfway to work i start smellin electrical burnin??.. I get to work pop the hood and don"t see anything obvious....

I come out for break around 2:00 and I see this.....

A fire started in my engine!!! smoke and flames burnt my hood...

so then I open it and find this!!

Has anyone ever seen anything like this???

I have not looked into it to much yet..... looks like it might have started at my main positive battery cable?? what could cause this???

even melted my new battery!!!

any Ideas???

Thanx.....

ok, now... back to topic.... i see you added some wireing, are you sure you had it all good, and your wiring could not have sparked it off?

to the OP, have you recently changed your oil or had it changed by someone else. because if by any chance some of it spilled somewhere then your wiring, as stated by 5.9 Andy, could have started it to burn........

Are you completely sure of that amp wire not being the problem, it looks close to the exhaust, the insulation could have melted and arced, is the fuse blown?

To me it looks like it started from either the battery's positive cable or the cable going into the fuse. Hard to tell though .

Definitely find out where that started to prevent it from happening again.....Good luck.

All of those wires carrying positive current should have had more insulation/wire looms on them, if they didnt before the fire. If any of them were rubbing on any metal parts and broke the insulation it would have shorted out.

what size fuse are you running to the amp cause if its like 80 amps or something high i could still draw enough current/heat to catch fire but not blow the fuse.. is your remote wire to the amp fused? i forgot to fuse my remote wire and it shorted and almost set me on fire
