finishing 242 swap

I just finished swapping in a model year 2000 242 from the 247 and my rear drive shaft is about 1 cm too long. Am i missing something here or do i need to get it shortened.

I noticed the 242 tail shaft is longer than the 247, but i was told it was a direct swap.

that's pretty normal, just think how much it would be if you didn't have that much lift.

So should I just get it shortened as much as the 242 tail shaft is longer than the 247's tail shaft?

Im freakkin out because I was planning on going to the Badlands tomorrow and I dont think i will find a machine shop open on the 4th to shorten this.

Can I swap the tail housings between the cases??

negative on all those.

it will need shortened to the specific measurements you take when the slip yoke is on without the shaft in normal ride height.
you're looking at a triangle with the tailshaft being one leg, the height from the tailshaft to the pinion being the other leg, and the driveshaft being the hypotenuse. you changed the horizontal leg and shortening the shaft by that much will leave you off as well.

people with wj's that do this swap get the 242 from a v8 if possible so they can get the driveshaft to go along with it and avoid this problem

It appears that if I shorten the slip thingy a little, it will slide further onto the t-case tail shaft, and allow me to bolt it up.

Concerns?

If that looks like it would actually work I say do it. I would cut more than 1/4" inch off though because when the suspension compresses (bump in the road) the shaft will bind up.

I would cut off a half inch and see where you're at.

OR

Swap that tail section! You can still make it brotha!

Before I cut the shaft I want to make sure the case works... I can shift into each postion on the new t-case through the shifter and manually BUT isn't the jeep supposed to be able to move in 4wd with the front drive shaft connected?? The shafts feel locked in 4wd but it still doesnt move.

I also noticed that when I shift into park when the engine is running the trans makes a light grinding noise.
