Finally bought some new speakers!
All car audio is 40% off at Circuit City right now so I figured now was the time to upgrade the speakers in the Jeep since I was running 5 year old Eclipse stuff.
Picked up two pairs of Polk DB651's despite Crutchfield saying they wouldn't fit ( )
Got each pair for $60... a far cry from Crutchfield's price of $110 a pair!
Installation was the same as any other speaker install. I soldered the connections (I hate those slide on crimp things) and used 4 self-tapping screws to attach them to the doors. (as I hate those slide on things that come with them!)
My main reasons for getting this model were the reviews are awesome and they are marine rated... they have rubber surrounds and can withstand moisture (as we all know the doors go under water sometimes ).
The sound quality is awesome! They are geared more towards being powered off a headunit rather than an amp, which is good and bad. Good for me as I have them running of the headunit, bad for some as they can't pump mega wattage into them.
So yah, I recommend them to anyone!

6W-60W RMS; perfect for even a stock headunit.

Beware, I used to work for CCity along time ago. They most likely will sell you blow speakers. The employees already picked out the good stuff. When I worked there, I bought a JVC 10 disc head unit/changer 500 watt rms mtx amp, infinity components, and a pair of polk subs for around $150 out the door *LEGALLY*... Hence, the employees probably got the good stuff.

These were new in the sealed boxes. Not to mention anything open box or from the 'wall of sound' carries a full manufacturer's warranty just as it would if it was new.

We resealed them in the back room. Polk should be good. I know there are zero returns. Just beware.

Those are 6.5"'s right? What's that plate behind them that they're mounted to? A factory thing, or is it a size conversion plate that you had to pick up? Just wondering, because the 97 ZJ I just bought has a couple bad speakers in it that I'll be needing to replace, wanting to know in advance before I go ripping the panels apart. Also, would the Infinity system make a difference in size of the speakers? Sorry to bug you with all these questions, just figured alot of you guys would know off the top of your heads :P

I just replaced all four speakers in my GC. They are oversized 6.5" and they fit fine in the OE holes and sound great with the rest of the Infinity system.

Yes I bought 6.5" speakers. The metal plates are factory. I used self-tapping screws... made the job way easier haha

I just bought a 93 ZJ that had the factory speakers literly "ripped" out including the prev owner(s) tore the heck out the door panel covers getting to them but what sized speakers should I look for if I don't have anything but round holes in my door?? Let's not even go into in my humble guess, the prev owners believed that the metal channel that's on the door window glass needed to be seperated as I the only thing I can think is that they thought the window glass was in the way ??? I fixed the glass and got it reattached to the metal channel and bolted back to the window regulators.
I see it mentioned about the metal factory plates but I don't have anything but the metal door frame to mount to, will 6.5's work?
