exhaust/cat interchangeable between 5.2 and 4.0?

i bought my 5.2 with the exhaust cut at the midpipe so i have no cat, no o2 sensors, and no muffler. im looking to buy exhaust from someone parting out their zj but all i can find are 4.0 so will this work and pass emissions? or are the cat/muffler different sizes?

IIRC the cat, O2, & muffler are all interchangeable. Obviously the manifolds are different. But the cat, intermediate pipe, & mufflers should be the same. The tailpipes are almost identical except are shaped differently at the bumper end, 4.0Ls have a down-turned round end and v8s have no turn-down, it's straight out under the bumper and the end is oval.

Actually the tailpipes on v8s are turndowns as well. I believe your thinking of the 5.9, which I think has that oval tailpipe.

Well, if that's the case, then the P.O. musta put a 5.9L tailpipe on my 5.2L '93.
Now if I only had the 5.9L to transplant into mine....

Cool! Mine's oval, but it's definitely not chrome....Definitely doesn't look like that one... It must be aftermarket junk...
