Engine swap 5.2 to 5.9

Hey fellow ZJ jeepers. I got an amazing deal on a 5.9 motor. I paid $200 bucks for and heres the kicker. It still runs and only has 100k on the motor. Well I am going to rebuild it from the ground up. My biggest question is when I put the motor in what do I need to look for in changes for what I have in it now. I know the ECM will need to be changed. Is there anything else? Thanks guys.

I think people typically recommend beefing up the transmission a little bit, a shift kit would possibly be enough along with a separate transmission cooler. You might need an electric fan, but I think that's about it.

It's a lot more to take on than just plopping in a new engine. I have the inline 6, not very familiar with the v8s. Just make sure your PCM and tranny are compatible. There might be different sensor connectors and such... Minor things as sensor connectors should be taken into consideration. It can get very spendy when it comes to those damn sensors haha

It will bolt right up to a 44RE. The V8 5.2 and 5.9 are identical externally. The 5.2 computer will probably run the 5.9. You don't need and E fan. They used that on the 5.9 to free up some HP.

flex plate, harmonic balancer, driver's motor mount,
the stock ecu can run it, but it'll be getting close to it's maximum adjustment.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

That is some awesome information guys thank you so much! I will probably get a computer for an 5.9 because I am going to rebuild the motor to a few steps up than stock. I.E. Cams, Valve train etc. just to add a tad bit more torque

Or just use a normal 5.2 pcm and get an SCT tuner from Hemifever.

You can call them and tell them what you have done to the motor and they will make custom tunes for your needs. Better than the 5.9 pcm.

OK i will look into that. Thanks for the advice and I am sure that is going to save some money so I dont have to buy a whole new PCM.

It's about 300 bucks but you get like 3 different tunes. Talk to Sean when you call.

Polka you need to stop talking about the hemifever tunes... I can't afford one right now but the more you tempt me the more I'm tempted to pull out the credit card which I need to avoid for now

Haha I know the feeling I almost bought one last month but some things came up. I'm trying to put my 5.9 back to stock since there is no wheeling around here and it's much more fun to drive with smaller tires. I need to get dat green son. I need my Obama dollars

I would be ingested in those blistines when you sell them. How big are the spacers?
