Electrical issue prob a stupid newbie question

I started my jeep and it didnt start as strong as in not a huge jump of the rpms. I drove around a little and stopped and when i restarted it acted like it wasnt getting enought juice and the light dimmed but it finally caught. My battery is pretty corroded right now im not thinking its a starter issue it started strong up untill today. Im guessing its just a battery issue as in i need a new one. The only other thing is i reved it up to 3.5K-4K rpms and let it drop and it almost cut off and the rpms were pretty low when it leveled back out. Any other ideas or just a new battery?

Is the CEL on?

You may not need a new battery, just clean your old one up.

Pull the alternator and battery and take them to AutoZone or any of those kind of stores and have them bench/load tested. It's better than guessing and you wont get stranded or replace the wrong part. Plus while they are out clean the crap out of the cables, grounding points and battery tray, it will pay off in the long run.

If it is the battery and it started and continued to run, my guess is the alternator is fine. Clean your terminalls and cables very very very good with water and baking soda (to neutralize the acid). I would see if that helps and like Mr Methane above said, take it to Advanced or Autozone and have them check it out to be on the safe side, they will tell you for sure if it's going bad or not.
