electrical gremlins

I have a '96 zj, 5.2 limited, about a year ago I was driving along and all of the sudden the vic, radio, and thermostat clusters all started to flicker intermittently, and then just turned off, so for the past year ive had no radio/etc, which I was dealing with but last night I found myself singing aloud , and I decided this was unacceptable. Theres power to the lights that illuminate the buttons, around the radio knobs/etc, but all the displays are dead on the temperature cluster, the radio, and the VIC. I checked the fuses, nada, I pulled apart the whole dash, hoping that maybe there was just a loose wire in the back that i could just plug in, and nothing. I even turned the car on, and started jamming at the wires in back of the radio/thermostat cluster/VIC hoping it was a short/etc, and nothing happened. I dont care about not having heat or AC, I didnt use them before anyways, and the VIC I could care less about, however the radio has me extremely pissed off now. I was wondering if anyone has any clues on how to troubleshoot this, or how to just wire the radio direct/etc. Thanks in advance.
