EGR Valve Question 1

As part of my EGR system, there is a plastic diaphram switch device called an electric EGR transducer. It looks like a critical component used to control the
opening and closing of the EGR valve. It has three ports and one electrical connection. With the top two ports, one connects to the engine vacuum, and the
other to the top side of the EGR valve, this actually controls the opening and closing of the valve. The port on the bottom connects to the bottom of the EGR valve, where the exhaust gasses enter. Upon removing this device to check for a vacuum leak I noticed that the port on the bottom was all melted. See picture below.

Has anyone else had this happen? What was the cause? I hate to replace this device only to have melt again.

My Jeep doesn't have that device, but I'm going to guess your's fell against the exhaust manifold. That's just about the only thing under the hood that gets hot enough to melt that kind of plastic. If it doesn't use a mounting bolt to safely secure it out of reach of the manifolds, simply zip-tie the new one out of the way. That should cure your problem easily.
