Durango air hat on 5.9

All done just need to paint the cuts and get some longer plumbing and maybe an elbow.

It fits snug right on the TB without any modification. The hood closed without trimming but it kinda bowed a little. I wouldn't think it would be good closed like that with the motor running. I need to clean the cuts up, paint it, and plug the breather hole. I got lucky finding this one at the JY all the other dodge trucks were stripped pretty good. My wife actually found this and the 703 injectors right before we left.

Compare the stock pancake with this one and it should be obvious.

You drive a tj, we drive a zj. We have more power while you get more shower. We get the v8 while you get there too late. You have 2 doors well, we have 2 more. Ours costs a grand while yours has a price we cant stand.

you could probably go and get one of those small cone filters to put over that hole, or a little rubber sleeve

I could but they don't filter nearly as good as the stock paper filter. It's just to darn dusty around here to mess with the high flow stuff. It's around 3.75"-4" tall on the fat end. I am still tinkering with the idea of using a junk yard ford windstar air intake, turning the air hat to the pass side, and plumbing it into the cowl. I don't know if there is enough room with the v8 though. It would be nice to have the extra space without sacrificing filtration.

Because of the stupid 90* angle from the intake tube into the throttle body would the air hat really make that much of a difference? Does it just try to smooth out the airflow or is it all about volume and what about swirl?

More air. Even with some lame bends it's still getting more air than in was with that terrible stock air hat. There are tabs on the bottom of the Durango air hat that can be cut off to position it at any angle you want. I left them on because it's a tight fit. I still may chop them off because I don't think they are necessary. I'll take a pic.
