Driver's door lower hinge replacement
I did some Googling and came up empty-handed. Any suggestions for a retailer that sells the lower hinge assembly? Or am I stuck going to the factory for this one?

Warren are these parts numbers valid for a 97 as well? I saw them in one of your older posts regarding a 96 ZJ:
Pin, Hinge 5507 6192 (2 per door)
Bushing, Hinge Pin 5507 4591 (4 per door)
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried partstrain.com I get part from them every once in a while for vehicle I'm working on. Not sure on the hinge but I would check it out

If you have a buddy who runs a body shop,he can get you this part with no problem. That's how I get ALL my stuff

Great idea rowdy. Hey Brian, thank you as well. I did check that site but they don't seem to carry that particular part. Looks like I'm off to talk to a body shop.

I believe the pins and bushings are dealer items only; why not just buy them yourself and avoid the body shop's mark-up? Nick (Kolak@aol.com) will likely sell them at a discount, and he will know if the parts are the same for your '97.

I just did this a month ago. I bought them from a local dealership for 12 bucks a set. It was actually a pretty easy job. I am tool challenged. So if you can get a friend to help it's pretty easy. You need to remove the wiring harness. There's one little hex screw in there, then the whole harness comes lose. Then just remove the bolts and take the door off. We then used a dremmal and ground the old bolt at both ends. It took about an hour or so. It's pretty simple. The guy you mentioned wanted 35 bucks a set.
Hope that helps
Brian

I'm not questioning this method, but I did mine by myself without removing the door (or the wiring). Just support the door while the pin is out. And I only ground off the top of the pin, then drove it out downward.

Joe, Sorry I missed this post..
The part numbers are going to be the same, however, they may have been superceded. The counter guy will find that out when he looks up the old number...
We have a guy that posts on here every now and then that is a parts guy at a Jeep dealership in Charleston, SC. If you contact him, he may be able to discount your parts pretty heavily. PM, email JOEL@MPSC, or call 1-800-456-5337 and ask for Joel.

Frytzz-
$12 per set? Wow...where the heck did you buy them at that price if you don't mind me asking?
Warren -
Thanks for the info. Your part numbers are still valid. I called Joel as you had suggested. He was very pleasant to deal with and very helpful by the way. Here's what I got:
Pin, Hinge 5507 6192 (2 per door) $4.03 each
Bushing, Hinge Pin 5507 4591 (4 per door) $2.86 each
So for a complete set we're talking $19.50 plus shipping/handling of $6.00 minimum. Joel's company's website is:
http://www.moparsupercenter.com/
And he says you just order online and insert the information above when ordering. The order form can be found HERE .
Having said that, I already ordered from Nick [Kolak] yesterday for $40.00 shipped. I could have saved $15.00. But Nick has been such an enormous help with finding the right parts for my rig that I'd say he's been invaluable to me - much like the members of this forum. So $15 is a small price to pay. And (hint hint to new Jeep Forum members) $25 is incredibly reasonable for dues to this invaluable Jeep Forum.
